Rangeland Management Specialist with the Upper Lake Ranger District
This position is located on the Mendocino National Forest, duty location Upper Lake, CA. Close Date Oct. 5.
This position will serve as the Rangeland Management Specialist with the Upper Lake Ranger District. The position will be responsible for managing, planning, scheduling, coordinating, reviewing, and reporting on an ecosystem-based rangeland management program. The work will require regular physical exertion in hiking, riding horses or riding in trucks including 4x4's over rough uneven, mountain terrain. Work is performed in an office and field environment. Field work may include risks of injury from falls, strains, and insect bites as well as exposure to inclement weather.

Restoration Ecologist New Mexico State University
One energetic, competent assistant needed to support the Jornada Experimental Range with regional-scale research in the Chihuahuan Desert of southern New Mexico. Duties will consist of approximately 50% office work (literature review, data entry, error-checking and organization) and approximately 50% field work (restoration experiments, vegetation sampling, soil characterization and sampling). Field sites are located in southern New Mexico. Field work requires extensive travel (one to four hours to access sites) throughout southern New Mexico and long hours in the field. Some sites are accessible only on foot over rugged terrain. Field conditions may range from hot (100's) to cold (30's), and windy.

County staff, including hydrologists, soil scientists, planners, and field
technicians to implement Inyo County water policies. Many of the County's
policies and initiatives are concerned with the City of Los Angeles's water
export activities in Owens Valley. The Water Department Vegetation
Scientist is responsible for monitoring vegetation conditions on Los
Angeles's land in Owens Valley; analyzing such data to evaluate the effects
of Los Angeles's water management on vegetation, working with other Water
Department staff to evaluate the linkage between vegetation condition, soil
water, and water table fluctuations; developing mitigation plans; and
assessing the efficacy of mitigation measures. A strong background in
quantitative ecology and statistical methods is desirable. The vegetation
scientist will assist Inyo County and Los Angeles implement and monitor
mitigation measures including arid land, riparian, and wetland restoration
projects. Besides the technical aspects of this position, the Vegetation
Scientist will work with County officials, County legal counsel, other
agency representatives, and the public to implement County water policies
and convey timely and pertinent information to the public.
The position is currently based in Independence, CA.
